Lincoln - On the heels of a first-team All-America season, Nebraska junior pitcher Jenny Voss was named the the Big 12's Co-Pitcher of the Week along with Texas All-American Christa Williams Wednesday.
Voss guided the 4-1 Huskers to complete-game victories over Maryland, No. 21 Florida State and UNLV in the season-opening Fiesta Bowl Tournament, allowing only one earned run in the process for a 0.37 ERA. Against Utah State, Voss threw a four-hit shutout in a game that marked her 80th complete game, which tied pitching coach Lori Sippel's career record. She also held 21st-ranked Florida State to just three hits. Voss struckout 15 in 19 innings of work and held opposing batters to a .167 batting average over the weekend.
Williams struckout 50 batters in 32.1 innings of work and compiled a 2-1 record for the Longhorns.
The conference honor is the first for Voss and the first for a Nebraska pitcher since 1995. Lynette Valazquez of Oklahoma earned the Big 12 Player-of-the-Week honors after hitting .519 with three doubles and two home runs.
No. 8 Nebraska will be back in action on Feb., 26-28 in Columbus, Ga., for the NFCA Lead Off Classic, which features 13 teams from the NFCA/USA Today Top 25 poll
