Columbia, Mo. - Senior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc and the Husker defense notched their fifth consecutive shutout as the third-ranked Nebraska soccer team defeated No. 24 Missouri, 2-0, Friday afternoon at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium.
Sophomore forward Christine Latham and freshman forward Kelly Haxton scored first-half goals as the Huskers improved to 11-0-0 and 2-0-0 in Big 12 Conference action, while the Missouri fell to 6-5-0 and 2-1-0.
"It was a tough battle," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. "We played well defensively. It was a good, tough hard road win against a ranked team and another shutout."
With the help of LeBlanc, who upped her scoreless streak to 510:22, Nebraska has now recorded nine shutouts in 11 games. A preseason All-American and Hermann Trophy finalist, LeBlanc lowered her conference-leading goals-against average to 0.32. She also recorded three saves in the effort. Her 0.56 career goals-against average is the seventh best in NCAA history.
Sophomore midfielder Kori Saunders, who has been sidelined since an eight-inch shard of glass entered her back when she fell through a glass table on Aug. 10, came off the bench to make her first game appearance of the season. Saunders, who scored 21 points for the Huskers a year ago, played around 40 minutes and assisted Haxton's goal.
Latham upped her conference lead with her 11th goal of the season at 7:43 on a pass from Kelly Rheem. Latham is now tied with NU junior midfielder Meghan Anderson for the team lead with 24 points. Rheem leads the conference with 12 assists.
Haxton scored her fourth goal of the season at 40:52, upping her point total to 11 on a pass from redshirt freshman Paige Phillips from Saunders.
The Huskers will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 1, in a 1 p.m. contest at Kansas. Nebraska will then return to Lincoln for a five-game homestand, beginning on Friday, Oct. 6, with a 7 p.m. contest against Texas at the Abbott Sports Complex.
