LAWRENCE, Kan. - Sophomore forward Christine Latham posted her fourth multiple-goal game of the season as the Nebraska soccer team notched its sixth consecutive shutout, defeating Kansas, 3-0, before a crowd of 384 at SuperTarget Field on Sunday afternoon. The third-ranked Huskers improved to 12-0-0 and 3-0-0 in the Big 12 Conference, while the Jayhawks fell to 6-6-0 and 2-2-0.
Senior goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, who has not allowed a goal in 600:22, lowered her conference-leading goals-against average to 0.29, while recording four saves. LeBlanc's career goals-against average of 0.55 ranks seventh in NCAA history.
Nebraska has now outscored its opponents 56-3 this season.
"Overall, it was just a good, solid performance," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. "We played well. It was just a good, tough effort."
Latham, who scored the game-winning goal in NU's 2-0 victory over No. 24 Missouri on Friday, booted the game-winner again on Sunday at 28:01. The Calgary, Alberta, native then assisted Shannon Tanaka's goal at 65:27, before scoring the Huskers' final goal at 78:05. Latham currently leads the Big 12 Conference with 13 goals and 29 points.
"She's done a good job shooting," Walker said. "She always has a shooting mentality."
Tanaka, a junior midfielder, scored her second goal of the season after assisting Latham's game winner. Junior forwards Becky Preston and Kelly Rheem both assisted Latham on Nebraska's final goal of the day. Rheem now leads the conference with 13 assists.
The Huskers outshot the Jayhawks, 25-8, and outcornered KU, 16-0.
NU will return home this weekend to play host to Texas on Friday in a 7 p.m. contest at the Abbott Sports Complex, before taking on ninth-ranked Texas A&M at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Friday's matchup will be televised by NETV, and Sunday's game will air on Fox Sports Net.
