Huskers, Vering Fall to Sixth-ranked Oklahoma

Norman, Okla. -- The eighth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team dropped its second dual in as many days, as NU fell to sixth-ranked Oklahoma, 33-7, at the OU Fieldhouse in Norman, Okla., Sunday afternoon. The Huskers drop to 11-5, while the Sooners improve to 17-4-1.

OU opened the dual with a 6-2 victory by 10th-ranked Leonce Crump over sophomore Pat Miron at heavyweight to take an early 3-0 lead.

For the second consecutive day, NU's third-ranked Jason Powell lost a one-point match, this time to Matt Ridings, 8-7. Powell jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but Ridings outlasted the Midwest City, Okla., native for the win.

All-American Todd Beckerman cut the Sooner lead to three with a 7-4 victory over 13th-ranked Witt Durden. Beckerman improves to 19-3 with the win.

After a forfeiture by NU at 141 pounds, seventh-ranked Jared Frayer picked up his 19th fall of the season, pinning NU's Travis Baker in 4:04 to give the Sooners an 18-3 advantage.

Two-time All-American Bryan Snyder picked up NU's second and last win of the day with a four-point 28-13 technical fall over Tony Moore. The Easton, Pa., native improves to 21-1.

The Sooners took the next three matches including another one-point loss for 13th-ranked Ati Conner at 174 pounds. The Goleta, Calif, native exchanged escapes with No. 11 Michael Barger, but Barger won the match with 1:52 of riding time.

In the last bout of the afternoon, senior NCAA Champion Brad Vering suffered his second loss of the season, falling to 10th-ranked Waymon May, 3-2. Vering gave up an early takedown to May ending the first period behind 2-1. The Howells, Neb., native tied the match with an escape to start the second period, but fell behind again for good after May escaped at the beginning of the third period. Vering falls to 21-2 on the year.

The Huskers wrap up their regular season next Friday as they host No. 4 Iowa State at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Track starting at 4 p.m.
