Anderson, Latham Named Preseason All-Americans

Nebraska senior midfielder Meghan Anderson and junior forward Christine Latham, the 2000 Big 12 Soccer Player of the Year, earned preseason All-America honors from College Soccer Online (www.collegesoccer.com) on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Anderson, a second-team preseason selection, posted 39 points on 12 goals and a team-high 15 assists for the Huskers in 2000. With 112 career points, she is on pace to become Nebraska's all-time leading scorer this fall -- trailing Lindsay Eddleman's school record by 15 points. Anderson earned first-team All-America honors from College Soccer Online in 2000.

"Meghan really has completed herself as an all-around player," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. "We're looking for her to have her best year."

Latham, who earned honorable-mention preseason honors, led the Huskers with 57 points on a team-high 23 goals and 11 assists in 2000 en route to earning second-team All-America honors from College Soccer Online. The Huskers finished the season ranked ninth (22-2-0) after reaching the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16 for the fifth consecutive season.

"Christine is a great finisher, and hopefully she'll continue to develop," Walker said. "She is powerful, aggressive, skillful and hard working. She'll just continue to refine her game."

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Latham spent the summer with the Canadian National Team. She will open the fall ranked fifth in Husker history with 86 points and fifth on NU's all-time chart with 35 goals scored.

The Huskers, who begin fall camp on Aug. 15, will take on defending national champion North Carolina in an exhibition game on Aug. 24 in Chapel Hill, N.C., before opening the regular season against Arizona on Aug. 31, at the Abbott Sports Complex.
