Huskers Blank Kansas, 2-0; Anderson Joins 40-40 Club

Lincoln, Neb. -- Sophomore forwards Kelly Haxton and Christy Harms each scored a goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Erin Miller held the Jayhawks scoreless, as the fifth-ranked Nebraska soccer team blanked Kansas, 2-0, before a crowd of 689 at the Abbott Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

With an assist on Haxton's goal, Husker senior midfielder Meghan Anderson became the 29th NCAA Division-I athlete to record 40 career goals and 40 career assists. No other Husker has ever accomplished the feat.

"It's quite an accomplishment - even more so for a midfielder," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. "It's a very difficult thing to do. Meghan is just a complete player."

Anderson, who is just three points shy of Lindsay Eddleman's school-record 127 career points, fired a corner kick to Haxton, who headed in Nebraska's first goal at 42:15. Anderson has posted 42 career goals and 40 career assists.

"I knew I was one away," Anderson said. "It felt good. But I was just happy we played a little better today."

The goal was Haxton's first of the season. The Calgary, Alberta, native, who scored 11 points in 14 games last season, has seen significant action off the bench in all nine games for the Huskers this year.

Nebraska improved to 8-1-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the Big 12 Conference, while Kansas fell to 7-3-0 and 3-1-0. The Huskers outshot the Jayhawks, 25-9, and outcornered KU, 10-1.

"I have no complaints," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker said. "Kansas is a much-improved team. It was a workman-like victory."

Harms scored NU's final goal at 65:53, following a quick pass from junior forward Christine Latham through defenders in the box. Kansas freshman goalkeeper Meghan Miller was left on the ground in an attempt to block Harms' shot. The goal was Harms' fourth of the season. The Blue Springs, Mo., native, who also scored a goal in NU's 5-1 win over Missouri on Friday, has posted 10 points this season.

Latham, a Hermann Trophy candidate, upped her season total to 18 points.

In goal for Nebraska, Miller posted her second career shutout, recording five saves. Former Husker Brooke Jones, a Kansas midfielder, gave the Jayhawks a chance to score at 79:40, firing a shot at Miller, who made a diving save. Miller, a first-year goalkeeper, has not surrendered a goal in her last 121:34. She lowered her goals-against average to 0.91 on Sunday.

"She has been great in her last four or five games," Walker said. "She is really turning into a very good goalkeeper."

The Huskers will hit the road to face Texas on Friday at 7 p.m. in Austin, Texas, before traveling to take on 12th-ranked Texas A&M in a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday in College Station, Texas.

NU and Texas are the only two teams in the league without a loss or tie to a conference opponent. The Longhorns (4-3-0 and 3-0-0) play host to non-conference foe Houston at 7 p.m.
