Lincoln, Neb. -- Nebraska men's golf coach Bill Spangler proudly announced three commitments for his 2002-03 recruiting class on November 11, 2001.
Judd Cornell (Omaha, Neb.), Drew Reynolds (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Matt Ellis (Ponca City, Okla.) have all signed letters of intent to play golf for the Huskers next fall.
"Judd Cornell has all of the tools to be an outstanding player," Spangler said. "He is as fundamentally sound as any player you'll see and his work ethic is second to none. He is known to be the first one to arrive at the golf course and the last one to leave."
Reynolds' father, Rick Reynolds, is a former All Big 8 golfer at Nebraska. His grandfather, the late Bobby Reynolds, was an All-American halfback for the Huskers in the early 1950's
"I'm excited for Drew to have the opportunity to be a student-athlete at Nebraska just like his father and grandfather," Spangler said. "Drew Reynolds is a powerful ball striker with the ability to maneuver the ball. Another exciting aspect of his game is his touch and imagination around the greens."
Ellis holds two course records in Oklahoma. He fired a final round 68 at the Kansas City AJGA tournament this past summer, which was the low round of the day
"Matt Ellis is a player who has shown the ability to shoot low scores," said Spangler. "Matt's desire to shoot low scores and the fact that he is not afraid to go low are what separate his from other players."
Spangler said he is excited about his first recruiting class.
"All three players have the talent and, more importantly, the desire to contribute immediately," he said. "Also, they come from great families that support them in a positive way."
