Nebraska midfielder Meghan Anderson was selected by the Carolina Courage in the third round of the Women's United Soccer Association Draft on Monday morning. Anderson was the 20th overall selection in the draft.
"I'm very happy for Meghan," Nebraska Head Coach John Walker. "Her work ethic over the past four years has been outstanding. It's nice to see her hard work paid off. Based on their personnel, I think Carolina is a good situation for her. I think Meghan will be a good fit there."
Anderson, a 2001 All-American on the field and in the classroom, finished her career as Nebraska's all-time leading scorer with 146 career points. She also became just the 29th NCAA Division I athlete to record both 40 career goals and 40 career assists. Anderson finished her career with 48 career goals and 50 career assists.
Nebraska finished the 2001 season at 17-5-1 with a loss to Portland in the NCAA Tournament's round of 16. Through Anderson's career, the Huskers posted a combined record of 78-12-4.
Anderson is one of four former Nebraska soccer players on active WUSA rosters. Jenny Benson is a defender for the Philadelphia Charge, Karina LeBlanc is a goalkeeper for the Boston Breakers and Sharolta Nonen is a defender for the Atlanta Beat.
