Husker Swimming and Diving Team Set to Open 2003 Season

Lincoln- The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>University of Nebraska swimming and diving team will begin the 2002-03 season with the annual Red-White Intrasquad scrimmage Friday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Huskers return five letterwinners from the 2001-02 team, including a pair of seniors in diver Jeni Fortino and swimmer Susan Walker. Head Coach Pablo Morales, who is entering his second year at Nebraska, welcomes 16 newcomers, including eight-time junior college All-American Angie Matheu. In the diving well, freshman Amie Buoy headlines a group that includes five freshmen. Buoy, one of the top freshman divers in the country, finished 12th on the three-meter springboard at the World Age Group Meet in August.

 

NU will open the regular season Thursday, Oct. 10, against defending Big 12 champion Texas at the Devaney Center before playing host to the Big 12 Relays on Oct. 11.
