Ogallala, Neb. -- Redshirt freshman middle blocker Melissa Elmer produced 12 kills on a .474 hitting percentage to lead the Nebraska volleyball team to a 30-23, 30-28, 30-24, spring exhibition victory over Colorado State Saturday afternoon. Elmer also added six blocks in the match, which was played before a sold-out gymnasium in Ogallala, Neb.
"One of our goals this season has been to try to get Melissa the ball more," NU Coach John Cook said. "She hit .474 on 19 attempts tonight, so she certainly held up her end and played well."
Nebraska junior outside hitter Anna Schrad tallied 14 kills in the win, as the Huskers improved to 4-0 in the spring season.
"It was truly a great atmostphere," Cook said. "It was unreal for a spring game. The place was standing room only. It was very exciting for us and for the fans."
The Huskers conclude the spring exhibition season Saturday, April 26, when they travel to Minneapolis to face Minnesota and Wisconsin in the Minnesota Spring Tournament.
