Huskers 12th At Mean Green Golf Classic

The Nebraska men's golf team fired rounds of 299 and 296 on Monday at the Lantana Golf Club in Lantana, Texas, good for a 595 total and a 12th-place standing in the Mean Green Golf Classic. The Huskers are 24 shots behind team leader and host North Texas, which holds a six-shot lead on second place McNeese State. Texas State (580), Houston (581), Washington State (584) and Stephen F. Austin (584) round out the top six in the field.

Individually, Nebraska freshman Brady Schnell has continued the blistering start to his collegiate career. Schnell finished in ninth place at last week's Fairway Club Invitational in Lincoln and is tied for third after two rounds at the Mean Green Golf Classic. Schnell opened the day with a three-under par 69 on the 7,165-yard layout and posted an even-par 72 in the afternoon for a 141 total. Schnell is tied for third with six other golfers, just one shot behind leaders Adrien Mork of McNeese State (67-73) and Brandon Weaver of Western Kentucky (72-68).

The remainder of NU's squad is back in the field after the first day of action. Sophomore Judd Cornell, Schnell's high school teammate at Millard West, opened with rounds of 76 and 74 and is tied for 48th place. Lincoln native Chris Hartwig struggled to a 78 in the opening round, but posted a 73 in the afternoon and is tied for 53rd. Senior J.J. Sullivan posted rounds of 76 and 77 for a 153 total and a tie for 65th place, while redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds rounded out the Husker lineup with a 159 total (80-79) which left him in a tie for 84th place.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday morning with a single 18-hole round at Lantana Golf Club.
