Nebraska Finishes 11th at Kansas Invite

Lawrence, Kan. -- The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men's golf team fired a 296 in Tuesday's third and final round of the Kansas Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. The Huskers finished the tournament with a total of 890, good for 11th place.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Host Kansas cruised to the team title with a three-round total of 855, 17 shots better than runner-up North Texas. Wichita State, Louisville and Oral Roberts rounded out the top five.

 

Husker freshman Brady Schnell posted the third straight top-20 finish to start his Nebraska career. Schnell fired a 72 on Tuesday to finish three rounds at even-par 216, good for a tie for eighth place with UC-Davis' Scott Gordon and Gary Woodland of Kansas. KU's Andrew Price ran away with the individual crown, finishing the three rounds in nine-under par 207.

 

Nebraska redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds shot a 74 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 21st at 220, with senior J.J. Sullivan in a 50th-place tie at 227. Chris Hartwig (60th, 229) and Judd Cornell (81st, 238) rounded out the Husker lineup, while NU freshman Thomas Bethel finished 64th at 230, while competing as an individual.

 

Nebraska is next in action on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30, at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan.
