Huskers Fifth After Two Rounds of Jim Colbert Intercollegiate

Manhattan, Kan. -- The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men's golf team finished with a team total of 601 on Monday during the first day of competition at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in Manhattan, Kan., and stands in fifth place in the field. The Huskers posted a 302 in the opening round and a 299 in the afternoon at the demanding 7,147-yard, par-72 Colbert Hills layout.

 

Big 12 rival Missouri leads the team race after completing 36 holes at even-par 576. Drake is in second place at 584, followed by host Kansas State (586), Southwest Missouri State (591) and Nebraska (601). Mississippi State, Arizona State and Iowa round out the field.

 

Individually, Nebraska was led by senior J.J. Sullivan who fired a pair of 74s on Monday and is tied for 13th place with a 148 total. Sullivan finished ninth in last year's Jim Colbert Intercollegiate. Sophomore Judd Cornell (74-75) is one shot behind Sullivan at 149 and is tied for 15th place. Redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds and senior Chris Hartwig are both tied for 31st at 154. Reynolds shot consecutive 77s, while Hartwig rebounded from a morning 81 with a 73 in the afternoon round. Freshman Brady Schnell rounded out the NU lineup at 157 (80-77) and is tied for 39th, while Matt Ellis is competing individually and is tied for 44th at 162.

 

Southwest Missouri's Austin Hackett leads the individual race with a four-under par 140 total through two rounds. He is three shots in front of Missouri's David Jenkins.

 

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning at Colbert Hills in Manhattan, Kan.
