The Nebraska men's golf team completes its fall schedule next week at the Squire Creek Invitational at Squire Creek Golf Club in Choudrant, La. The 15-team tournament is hosted by Louisiana Tech University on one of the top new courses in the southern United States.
Tournament play will start with 36 holes on Monday, beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will also begin at 8 a.m. with tee times off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees. The Huskers are still looking for a breakthrough performance in the fall season. Nebraska has had trouble finishing rounds, according to Coach Bill Spangler, but has shown flashes of outstanding play. Nebraska's top finish of the fall was a fifth-place showing at the Colbert Hills Intercollegiate in Manhattan, Kan. However, the Huskers are coming off their most impressive scoring of the fall, posting a three-round total of 874 at the 49er Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 6-7.
Spangler is optimistic about next week's tournament. The Huskers had their top finish of the 2002 fall season at the Squire Creek Invitational, finishing third in a 15-team field with a three-round total of 910 in difficult weather conditions.
Nebraska will continue with the same lineup it has fielded each of the past four tournaments. Senior J.J. Sullivan will play the No. 1 spot. He has been Nebraska's most consistent golfer throughout the fall, with 10 of his 13 rounds between 71 and 76 and a stroke average of 74.4 strokes.
Sophomomore Judd Cornell will play the No. 2 spot in Louisiana, folllowed by freshman Brady Schnell, senior Chris Hartwig and redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds. Spangler said those five players have clearly established themselves as Nebraska's top five and will head into the spring season as the Huskers' likely lineup.
Spangler is excited about the play of Schnell and Reynolds in their first season of collegiate competition. A true freshman from Omaha's Millard West High School, Schnell leads Nebraska in fall stroke average at 73.8 strokes, and has five rounds of 72 or lower in the fall. Reynolds is a redshirt freshman from Lee's Summit, Mo., who has a 75.8 fall stroke average and five rounds of 74 or better.

Nebraska opened the tournament with a round of 296, but posted a season-best 284 in the second round, followed by a 294 in the final round. The Huskers were led individually by senior J.J.
