Huskers Finish 11th at Squire Creek Intercollegiate

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men’s golf team finished tied for 11th place at the Squire Creek Intercollegiate in the final event of its fall season. Nebraska was tied for seventh entering Tuesday’s final round at Squire Creek Golf Club in Choudrant, La., but struggled to a 311 on Tuesday to finish 54 holes at 917 and tie with Nicholls State and Oral Roberts.

 

Nebraska also shot a 311 in Monday’s opening round, but moved up the leaderboard with a 295 in yesterday’s afternoon round. The 917 total left Nebraska 22 shots behind team champion Arkansas State, who finished one shot ahead of Louisiana-Monroe and three strokes in front of Texas-Arlington. Lamar and Arkansas State rounded out the top five.

 

The Huskers’ top score on Tuesday was a 75 from J.J. Sullivan who finished three rounds at 230 to tie for 31st place. Sullivan was one shot behind fellow senior Chris Hartwig who finished at 229 (tie 29th) after a 77 on Tuesday. Redshirt freshman Drew Reynolds duplicated Nebraska’s roller-coaster tournament as a team, posting an 81 on Tuesday. He opened the tournament with an 81, but rebounded with a 69 in the Monday afternoon round. His 231 total left him in a tie for 33rd in the final standings. Sophomore Judd Cornell (78, 232) finished in a tie for 38th place, while freshman Brady Schnell (83, 236) rounded out the Husker lineup.

 

Lamar’s Chris Stroud shot a six-under-par 66 on Tuesday to finish three rounds at 208, good for a seven-shot victory in the individual race. The Huskers’ spring season will begin on Feb. 16-17 with the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss.
