<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Waco, Texas ? Nikki Baker netted Nebraska's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Baylor Friday night at the Betty Lou Mays Field in Waco, Texas, giving the NU soccer team its first Big 12 loss and its first loss in seven games.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The loss drops the Huskers to 7-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in Big 12 play, while Baylor improves to 6-5-0 and 1-2-0 in the conference.

"It was a hard fought game, but we gave up two goals in a minute period and that is hard to accept," Coach John Walker said. "We fought back, but we didn't get enough clear shooting opportunities. It's very disappointing, but we need to bounce back and get the win on Sunday."

Baker scored her third goal of the season and her third in two games at the 73:02 mark, putting NU within 2-1. Baker knocked in a shot off a rebound, and Jenna Cooper and Kari Hogan were credited with the assists.

Just over ten minutes into the second half, Baylor got the scoring started with a goal by Tiffany Boshers on an assist by April Robertson.

Thirty-six seconds later the Bears struck again with the game-winning goal by Kandyce Farr on assists by Emily Fukuchi and Robertson.  The goal marked the shortest span between goals by a Nebraska opponent.

The Huskers did not get off to a good start, with freshman Jessie Bruch taking the only shot for NU in the first half.  The Bears were able to get off four shots in the first period, but thanks to solid play by the defense, were not able to score. Nebraska fought back and had good possession in the second half, but was only able to post one goal.

In the end, Baylor outshot the Huskers, 10-6 on the contest and posted five shots on goal to NU's three. Nebraska outcornered the Bears, 5-1, on the contest.

"Baylor played well with a lot of energy," Walker said. "We gave a decent effort, but there were just not enough scoring opportunities. We got a lot of crosses, but they did not result in a lot of scoring chances."

NU goalkeeper Brooke Bredenberg took the loss, making three saves and allowing two goals on the game.  Bredenberg is now 6-2-1 on the season. Baylor's goalkeeper, Monica Housden made two saves and allowed one goal.

Nebraska will travel to Texas Tech to take on the Red Raiders Sunday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas. The Huskers return home Oct. 10 to play host to the Oklahoma Sooners at 7 p.m. at the Abbott Sports Complex.
