Nebraska Volleyball Coach John Cook announced Tuesday that Tina Westerhold has been hired as Director of Operations for the Husker volleyball program. Westerhold replaces Diane Mendenhall, who was named NU’s Associate Director of Athletic Development on Dec. 18 after spending four years in the volleyball office.
Westerhold, who has spent the previous two years working as an academic counselor at Nebraska, will handle a variety of duties for the Husker volleyball team, including team travel, budgeting, coordinating tournaments and camps and assisting visiting teams. She will also serve as a liaison for volleyball support units, including facilities and events, sports information, marketing, compliance, HuskerVision, the ticket office, alumni and The Match Club.
"Tina comes highly recommended to us from Dennis LeBlanc and Keith Zimmer in academics," NU Coach John Cook said. "She is someone who has worked on campus and knows the university system, and she has worked with our student-athletes, so we think it will be a smooth transition. Tina has big shoes to fill with Diane leaving, but we think she will do a wonderful job and will be a great asset to Nebraska volleyball."
Westerhold served briefly as an NU assistant academic counselor during the summer of 2001 before returning to Lincoln in May of 2002. She was promoted to interim academic counselor in August of 2003, serving as the counselor for men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s basketball and swimming and diving teams.
Before arriving at Nebraska, Westerhold worked in games and event management at Wisconsin-La Crosse, where she oversaw home event operations, including marketing and promotions, and was the event manager for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball championship. In addition, Westerhold previously worked as an intern for the Lincoln Lightning and was an intern in the Nebraska Wesleyan sports information office.
While at Nebraska Wesleyan, Westerhold was a four-year letterwinner for the Prairie Wolves’ volleyball team. She was a first-team All-NIAC selection in 1997 and 1998 and was a second-team pick in 1999. An excellent studen-athlete, Westerhold received the scholar-athlete award for volleyball in 1999 and 2000 was a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa health and human performance honorary at Wesleyan.
A native of Pender, Neb., Westerhold graduated with high distinction from Nebraska Wesleyan in May of 2000 with a degree in sports management. She received a master of exercise and sport science with an emphasis in sports administration from Wisconsin- La Crosse in May of 2002.
