Dallas, Texas - The Nebraska softball team has been picked to finish second in the Big 12 coaches preseason poll, the league office announced Wednesday. Oklahoma was tabbed as the favorite to win the league, finishing with 78 points and six of a possible nine first-place votes.
NU received 75 points in the poll, including four first-place votes.
"It’s nice to have the respect of our peers," NU Head Coach Rhonda Revelle said. "But we still have to play the games on the field.
"I look at the poll and see five teams that can win the conference race. I think it will be a very competitive league this year, but I’d rather be picked at the top than at the bottom."
The Huskers return 12 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which finished in a tie for fifth in the conference with a 10-8 record (39-17 overall) and was fourth at the Big 12 tournament. Nebraska opens the conference season March 27 at Oklahoma State.
Earlier this month, NU was selected No. 8 in the ESPN.com/USA preseason poll.
