Huskers Host Soccer Coaches Clinic April 24

Lincoln, Neb. - Canadian National Team Head Coach Even Pellerud, Canadian Under-19 National Team Coach Ian Bridge and Nebraska Coach John Walker and his staff will be the featured speakers at the 2004 Nebraska Soccer Spring Coaches Clinic set for April 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cook Pavilion on the University of Nebraska campus.

The cost of the clinic is $60, and includes Nebraska's game with the Canadian Under-19 National Team at the Abbott Sports Complex on Friday, April 23 at 7 p.m.  Each coach in attendance will also receive an adidas "Nebraska Coaches Clinic" T-shirt.

Featured Speakers
Even Pellerud:
Named the Canadian Women’s National Team head coach in the fall of 1999, Pellerud led Canada to a fourth-place finish at the 2003 Women’s World Cup. Before joining the Canadian National program, Pellerud led Norway to the 1995 Women’s World Cup title, along with a second-place finish at the 1991 World Cup. He added a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics with the Norwegians.

Ian Bridge: The head coach of the Canadian Under-19 National Team that advanced to the gold medal game at the FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championships, Bridge is also an assistant coach on the Canadian Women’s National Team. He helped Canada to a fourth-place finish at the 2003 Women’s World Cup. Bridge was also a player on the Canadian Men’s World Cup Team from 1980 to 1992.

John Walker: Entering his 11th year as the head coach of the University of Nebraska women’s soccer program, Walker has led the Huskers to eight straight NCAA Tournament bids, including a pair of NCAA Elite Eight finishes and seven trips to the Sweet 16. Walker owns a 172-43-8 career record, which ranks as the second-best winning percentage nationally among active coaches. He is also an assistant coach for the Canadian Under-15 and Under-16 National teams.

Marty Everding: Entering his 11th year as the goalkeeper coach for the University of Nebraska women’s soccer program, Everding coached Rebecca Hornbacher to All-America honors in 1996, before helping prepare Karina LeBlanc for a spot on Canada’s World Cup teams in 1999 and 2003. Both Hornbacher and LeBlanc went on to play in the WUSA.

Megan Skinner: Beginning her 10th year as an assistant coach at Nebraska, Megan Skinner has helped nine Husker players earn 14 NSCAA All-America awards, while 11 players have gone on to careers in the WUSA. The Huskers have also claimed 46 All-Big 12 Conference awards, and 40 All-Central Region honors. Skinner has also been an Olympic Development Program Region II staff coach.
