Huskers Finish Fifth at Emerald Coast Collegiate

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men’s golf team fired a final round 318 on Sunday at the Emerald Coast Collegiate at Tiger Point Country Club in Gulf Breeze, Fla. The Huskers’ Sunday team score was the third-best of the day and allowed Nebraska to finish in fifth place in the 15-team field with a three-round total of 942 strokes.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Nebraska entered Sunday’s action in sixth place and was able to pass Valdosta State after its strong final round. Team champion West Florida posted a 304 on Sunday for a 908 total and 30-stroke victory in the team race. Georgia College was second in the field with a 938 total, followed by Columbus State (939), Middle Tennessee State (941) and Nebraska.

 

Individually, senior J.J. Sullivan was Nebraska’s top finisher in the invite. Sullivan carded a 77 on Sunday to finish three rounds with a 232 total, good for a tie for 12th place. Sophomore Judd Cornell had an 81 on Sunday, leaving him with a 233 total and a 15th-place finish.

 

Brady Schnell tied for 23rd place after an 80 on Sunday and a 238 total, followed by Drew Reynolds in a tie for 28th (80, 239) and Chris Hartwig who tied for 48th (82, 245). Freshman Thomas Bethel competed as an individual for the Huskers and posted one of Sunday’s best rounds with a final-round 76. Bethel’s strong finish left him with a 234 total, good for a tie for 16th place in just his third collegiate tournament. West Florida’s Matthew Berzovich captured the individual crown after defeating teammate Andrea Signor in a playoff. Both golfers finished three rounds with 223 totals.

 

Nebraska is off for three weeks before resuming its spring schedule at the Steve Kerr Invitational on March 19-20 in Buckeye, Ariz.
