College Station, Texas ? Kyle Goerl and Casie Witte got the Nebraska track and field team started in the right direction in the first day of the Texas A&M Multis on Thursday afternoon in College Station, Texas.
Goerl is in eighth place in the men’s decathlon after scoring 3,568 points through five events in the first day of action. Goerl got off to a great start with a sixth-place run of 11.13 in the 100 meters. The Hutchinson, Kan., native leaped 22-6 ? in the long jump, and threw a mark of 37-11 ? in the shot put. He cleared 5-9 ? in the high jump before wrapping the day up with a time of 50.95 in the 400-meter run.
Witte is in 11th place in the women’s heptathlon with 2,909 points through four events. The Lincoln, Neb., native clocked a time of 15.25 in the 100-meter hurdles to get the meet started. Witte cleared 5-6 ? in the high jump and threw a mark of 31-7 ? in the shot put. Witte closed the day with a time of 26.51 in the 200 meters.
Goerl will conclude the decathlon on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles, the discus throw, the pole vault, javelin and the 1,500-meter run, while Witte will finish up the heptathlon with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
The Texas A&M Multis will begin again at 10 a.m. on Friday morning. Several other Nebraska track and field athletes will compete in the Texas A&M Relays on Saturday.
