Lincoln -- Tickets are now available for the Nebraska volleyball team’s spring exhibition match against Minnesota on Saturday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the NU Coliseum. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for youth and senior citizens, and all seating is general admission. Tickets can be purchased online at Huskers.com or by calling the NU Ticket Office at 1-800-8-BIGRED.
The Huskers match against Minnesota is their only home contest of the spring. The Gophers finished the 2003 season ranked fourth in the USA Today/AVCA Coaches poll after posting a 26-11 record and advancing to the NCAA national semifinals. Nebraska, which finished the season ranked 13th, went 28-5 and advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals.
Nebraska Coach John Cook is working with nine returning letterwinners during the spring exhibition season, including five players who started at least 20 of NU’s 33 matches in 2003. The Huskers will be led by junior middle blocker Melissa Elmer, who earned AVCA Second-Team All-America honors as a sophomore, and junior outside hitter Jennifer Saleaumua, a first-team All-Big 12 and first-team AVCA All-Region pick.
Starting setters Michelle Lynch and Dani Busboom also return, as does senior outside hitter Ally Rebholz, who started 21 matches last year. Other Huskers on the 2004 spring roster include middle blocker Christina Houghtelling, outside hitters Kelsey Fautsch and Dani Mancuso, and sophomore libero Amanda McCormick. All four are sophomores in eligibility and made significant contributions in 2003. Emily Schroeder, who redshirted in 2003, also joins the team.
