Huskers Split Games in California

The Nebraska soccer team picked up one win and one loss last weekend in California during its third week of the spring season. The Huskers defeated UCLA 3-1 on Thursday and just over 24 hours later fell to Southern California, 4-0.

"I think the important thing this spring has been that the girls have worked really hard," assistant coach Marty Everding said. "We look forward to playing USC again this week. We fought hard in both games, we just didn’t play particularly well against USC."

Nebraska played well against the Bruins, who played in the 2003 NCAA semifinals falling to eventual national champions North Carolina, 3-0.

Brittany Timko scored first for Nebraska around the 12-minute mark off of a deflection. Nikki Baker notched the game-winning goal that she knocked into the side of the net off an assist by Timko.

Freshman Jessie Bruch put in the third and final goal for the Huskers, when she headed a ball off a free kick from Jenna Cooper. With 12-15 minutes remaining in the contest UCLA posted its only goal of the game.

The Huskers were not as fortunate against the USC Trojans, dropping a 4-0 decision on Friday.

Nebraska was only down 1-0 at halftime, but had some organizational problems in the second half that resulted in three USC goals.

The Huskers will face USC again on Saturday, April 17, at 1 p.m. Nebraska will also take on Denver at 2 p.m., while USC and Denver will face each other at noon at the Abbott Sports Complex.
