NU Tied for 11th After One Round at ASU Indian Classic

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Jonesboro, Ark.?The Nebraska men’s golf team shot an opening-round score of 299 on Monday at the ASU Indian Golf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark., and is tied for 11th in the 18-team field.

                         

The field was scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday at the Ridge Point Country Club, but morning rain delayed the start of the tournament, limiting play to one round on Monday and shortening the tournament to 36 holes.

The Huskers 299 total places them in a tie with Louisiana Tech, 12 shots off the team lead shared by five schools. Nebraska is just four shots out of eighth place entering Tuesday’s second and final round.

 

Individually, Nebraska was led by freshman Tom Bethel, who fired a one-under 71 on Monday to tie for 10th place overall. Chris Hartwig is tied for 38th place after an opening 74, while fellow senior J.J. Sullivan shot 76 and is tied for 53rd. Nebraska’s squad was rounded out by Drew Reynolds, who shot a 78 to tie for 68th and Judd Cornell who is tied for 85th after an opening 82.

 

South Florida’s Ryan Shears and SouthwestMissouriState’s Austin Hackett share the individual lead after the first round with four-under 68s.
