Shuttle Hurdle Relay Team Sets Nebraska Record at Drake Relays

The Nebraska men’s shuttle hurdle relay team set a school record time of 56.14 to win the event and lead the Husker track and field team in the final day of the Drake Relays Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The relay team, made up of Aaron Ross, Courtney Jones, Richard Davidson Jr. and Nenad Loncar, was second overall in the preliminaries, and came back to win the finals over Air Force, Georgia and Texas-Arlington.

 

Aaron Nasers set the Huskers’ best time of the season in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 1:50.46 to win the race and qualify for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships.

 

Prisicilla Lopes ran a time of 13.58 in the special section of the women’s 100-meter hurdles, where she fell to fellow Canadian Perdita Felician.

 

Redshirt freshman Ashlee Dickinson tied for fourth place in the women’s high jump, clearing a season-best 5-6 ?. Yoav Shuster did not clear a height in the special section of the men’s high jump.

 

Issar Yahzbin came in eighth in the men’s hammer throw, launching it a distance of 194-1. Freshman Daniel Roper tied for 17th place in the triple jump with a leap of 46-8.

 

The Huskers also had several solid performances on Friday night in the Nebraska Wesleyan Twilight. The Huskers picked up wins in numerous events.

 

Carl Myerscough won the men’s shot put with a toss of 65-11 ? to lead NU.

 

Na’Tassia Vice won the high jump, clearing 5-11, while Casie Witte took second at 5-8 and Sara Jane Baker was fourth at 5-5. Jessie Graff won the women’s pole vault, clearing a height of 13-4. Kyle Odvody won the men’s high jump with a leap of 6-11, followed in second by Travis Baker, who cleared 6-9. Danny Tylka qualified for his first career regional championship, winning the men’s pole vault with a career-best height of 16-4 ?.

 

Dijana Kojic and Kim Pancoast went 1-2 in the women’s 800-meter run. Kojic won the race in 2:13.62, followed by Pancoast’s time of 2:13.99. In the men’s race, Tim Williams picked up the win, clocking a time of 1:54.42.

 

Tia DeSoto won the women’s hammer throw, tossing it 177-0, while Jamie Senkbile finished seventh with a mark of 161-1.

 

Nate Probasco claimed gold in the men’s 200-meter dash in a time of 21.56, followed by Shelldon Simpson in third at 21.83 and Marcus Sedberry in fifth in a time of 22.39. Sedberry also finished second in the 400 meters in 48.93.

 

Dana Carne and Eric Dall took first and second, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run with time of 3:51.3 and 3:54.8.  Eric Rasmussen won the men’s 5,000-meter run in 15:17.4.

 

The men’s 4x100-meter relay team won its race in 40.3.

 

Patricia Mayers finished second in the women’s 200-meter dash in 25.18. Michaela Lenihan came in second in the 1,500 meters in 4:51.9. Lindsey Finkner took silver in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 11:54.2.

 

Sara Jane Baker clocked a personal-best time of 14.71 in the 100-meter hurdles to finish third, while fellow multi-event athlete Casie Witte was fifth in 14.81. Chris Richardson took fourth-place in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.89. Richardson was also second in the long jump with a leap of 22-8 ?.

 

Jason Thompson won silver in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 49-1 1/2. Adam Evans finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 162-5. Lee Martin took fourth place in the javelin throw with a toss of 160-10.

 

Nebraska will travel to Norman, Okla., this week to compete in the Big 12 Outdoor Championships Thursday through Saturday, April 29-May 1.
