The Nebraska men’s golf team posted a 313 team score in the final round of the <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Big 12 Championships on Tuesday at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The Huskers’ Tuesday round left them with a three-round total of 926 and a 12th-place finish at the conference championships.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
The Huskers finished six shots behind Missouri who finished in 11th place at 920. Texas captured the team title with a three-round 864 total, six shots better than Oklahoma (870), followed by Oklahoma State (873) and Kansas State (881).
Sophomore Judd Cornell was Nebraska’s top individual finisher in the tournament. Cornell posted a 74 on Tuesday and completed three rounds at 224, good for a tie for 20th in the 60-player field. Cornell opened the tournament with a pair of 75s on Monday. The Millard West product posted a 36 on his first nine (back nine) on Tuesday and overcame a triple bogey on the par-4 fifth hole, with back-to-back birdies on the seventh and eighth holes.
Senior J.J. Sullivan also posted a 74 on Tuesday and finished three rounds at 230, good for a tie for 45th place. Sullivan opened the Big 12 Championships with rounds of 80 and 76 on Monday. Freshman Tom Bethel completed the tournament with an 80 for a three-round total of 234 and a tie for 52nd.
Senior Chris Hartwig finished in 58th place after an 85 on Tuesday left him with a 241 total and freshman Drew Reynolds rounded out the Nebraska lineup in 59th place (87, 246).
Jason Hartwick of Texas captured the individual crown with a three-round total of six-under par 204. Hartwick won the individual title by nine shots over Oklahoma’s Anthony Kim, who posted the day’s low round with a 67 on Tuesday.
The Big 12 Championships concluded Nebraska’s 2003-04 season.
