HuskersNside Announces Unprecedented Volleyball Internet Broadcast Schedule

Lincoln ? Volleyball fans who don’t have season tickets for the NU Coliseum can now watch every Husker match this season, as HuskersNside has announced plans to carry all 28 regular-season games live on the internet in 2004.

In advance of one of the most anticipated seasons in school history, Husker fans with high-speed Internet access can watch every serve, block and spike in 2004. The regular-season broadcast schedule begins on Sept. 3, when the No. 2 ranked Huskers travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on No. 25 Notre Dame, but subscribers will also be able to watch the annual Red/White match on Saturday, Aug. 28.

According to Coach John Cook, Wednesday's announcement is another way that Nebraska is looking to push the envelope in promoting college volleyball.

"Our goal is to be on the cutting edge and be a leader nationally in the sport of volleyball in everything we do," Cook said. "This is important for us because many of our players have family members outside of Nebraska, and showing the matches on the Internet allows them to be a part of our program and follow all of our matches. It also helps in recruiting because of the increased exposure that we will receive on the Internet."

This marks the third season that Nebraska has carried volleyball matches live on HuskersNside, but the first time that Nebraska has video-streamed an entire regular-season schedule for any sport. For non-televised matches, fans will hear the radio feed with play-by-play announcer John Baylor.

The 2004 schedule includes matchups against nine teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, including tilts against nationally ranked Colorado State, Kansas State and Texas A&M. In addition to the live matches, fans can also watch Coach Cook’s weekly television show, press conferences, on-demand highlights of past matches and much more on all 23 of Nebraska’s athletic teams.

To sign up for HuskerNside, go to Huskers.com and click on subscribe on the right-hand portion of the front page. The cost for the service is regularly $9.95 per month or $99.95 for a complete year, but fans who sign up prior to the season opener can receive a subscription for a special rate of $79.95. In addition, fans who sign up for the volleyball package can also receive a free volleyball poster and set of schedule cards with their HuskersNside subscription. The service sends video streams at 300 and 600 kbs which limits access to high speed connections.

In addition to the live internet streaming, all of Nebraska’s matches are carried on a 16-station radio network, including flagship station B107.3 FM in Lincoln, and carried live on Huskers.com.
