<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? The Nebraska soccer team outshot Stanford 13-9, but Lizzy George scored the only goal of the game for the Cardinal in its 1-0 victory over the Huskers on Sunday in front of 482 fans at the Abbott Sports Complex.

With the loss, NU dropped to 3-3 on the season, while Stanford improved to 3-2. Despite the outcome, Nebraska Head Coach John Walker was pleased with how his team rebounded from Friday night’s 2-1 loss to Pacific.
“Today we played a lot better than we did on Friday,” Walker said. “We competed at a good level and we figured it would be a one-goal game. It came down to they finished off a chance and we didn’t.”
George put the Cardinal on the board in the 36th minute. Leah Tapscott sent a crossing pass from the far side of the box that George was able to put past NU goalkeeper Katie Wright.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Huskers went on the offensive in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The majority of the second half was played on the Cardinal’s side of the field, but the Stanford defense was able to fend off every Nebraska threat.
The Huskers’ last chance came with just 4:30 remaining in the game. Junior Nikki Baker found sophomore Tanya Dennis in the box, but Dennis’ shot sailed wide.
Nicole Barnhart made five saves in goal for Stanford, while Wright recorded four saves for Nebraska.
The Huskers close out a season-opening eight-game homestand next weekend. NU will face Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. on Friday, before playing host to Montana at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both games will be held at the Abbott Sports Complex and live audio as well as live stats will be available on Huskers.com.
