NU (6-3-0) came out strong, taking an early 1-0 lead. Senior Lindsey Ingram scored just 5:54 into the game, beating Creighton’s goalkeeper Jamie Hermann from 25 yards out.
The Bluejays (3-4-1) answered back at 23:46 with an empty net goal. Husker sophomore goalkeeper Katie Wright attempted to clear a ball sent back to her, but Wright misplayed the ball and CU’s Kristine Willrett scored from the edge of the box.
Tied 1-1 at the half, Creighton used a corner kick and a redirection to take the lead on Willrett’s second goal of the game at 66:42.
Trailing by one, Nebraska turned up the offensive pressure and reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Brittany Timko, took a pass from senior Brooke Bredenberg and beat Hermann one-on-one from 15 yards out.
Nebraska won a corner kick two minutes later and Timko sent a beautiful ball into the box where junior Sasha Andrews headed it into the back of the net for the game winner.
For the game, Nebraska outshot Creighton 22-10 and recorded 14 corner kicks to only four for the Bluejays. Wright made two saves in goal for the Huskers, while Herrmann, making her first career start, also recorded two saves.
“It was good to come back,” NU Head Coach John Walker said. “We didn’t give up. We fought hard and so did Creighton, so it made for a very competitive game.”
Nebraska remains on the road for its next match, traveling to eighth-ranked Kansas on Friday for a 4 p.m. meeting with the Jayhawks in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams.
