Lincoln ? The Nebraska Athletic Department announced Friday that 10 Husker volleyball matches will be televised during the 2004 season.
The agreements with Nebraska Educational Television (NETV) and College Sports Television (CSTV) will provide the Husker volleyball program with both statewide and national exposure unmatched in collegiate volleyball according to Nebraska Head Coach John Cook.
"Nebraska volleyball is a treasure of the state of Nebraska, and we are excited that our fans throughout the Husker Nation will be able to see our team play on NETV and CSTV," Cook said. "This package must lead the nation in television exposure for volleyball, and our fans and players deserve the exposure and appreciate the sponsors who make it happen. In college volleyball, there is no place like Nebraska."
The 2004 broadcast schedule began on Sept. 15, with the Huskers’ match against Missouri and will continue with Saturday’s match against No. 11 Texas A&M. Seven other games will be carried live on NETV, highlighted by match-ups against nationally ranked Colorado (Oct. 27), Kansas State (Nov. 6), Kansas (Nov. 12) and Texas (Nov. 24). In addition to the nine televised matches, the network also carries the Alltel Husker Volleyball show, a half-hour program devoted to the Husker volleyball team that airs every Monday during the season at 5:30 p.m. (central) on NETV2.
Along with Nebraska Educational Television, College Sports Television will carry four upcoming Husker matches nationally, including live coverage of Saturday’s match against Texas A&M. The Nov. 7 contest against Colorado State will be carried live nationally, as part of the AVCA "Sunday Night Spikes" series. CSTV is available nationally on satellite (DirecTV channel 610) and cable (via Comcast, Time Warner, Adelphia and other operators). "To have College Sports Television utilize the NETV broadcast for their nationally televised matches shows the outstanding job that NETV does in producing college volleyball," Cook said. "There are a lot of national networks that could learn from NETV, and we are fortunate to have them as a television partner to showcase Nebraska volleyball around the country."
The television schedule adds to the numerous other options available to follow Husker volleyball this season, as every match is carried on radio state-wide on the 16-station Pinnacle Sports Network, including flagship station B107.3 FM in Lincoln, and on the Internet at Huskers.com. Nebraska is also the first college volleyball team to show every match live ? both home and away ? on the Internet at HuskersNside, a subscription-based site that carries more than 100 Husker sporting events a year.
