Husker Golfers Finish 11th at Squire Creek Invitational

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska posted a score of 296 on Tuesday in the final round of the Squire Creek Invitational in Choudrant, La., and finished in 11th place in the 17-team field. The Huskers’ Tuesday round left them with a three-round total of 910 strokes, 31 behind team champion Texas-Arlington. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

Nebraska’s 296 on Tuesday was one of eight sub-300 team scores in the final round and allowed the Huskers to move up one spot from their 12th-place standing after two rounds. Nebraska was paced on Tuesday by sophomore Tom Bethel and freshman Chris Bruening, who each posted one-over par scores of 73 on the 7,105-yard Squire Creek Golf Club layout.

 

Bethel completed three rounds at 228, good for a tie for 38th, while Bruening finished at 229 to tie for 44th place. Sophomore Brady Schnell was Nebraska’s top individual finisher after a final-round 76 left him with a 227 total, good for a tie for 33rd place. Junior Judd Cornell shot a 77 on Tuesday and finished tied with Bruening at 229, while sophomore Drew Reynolds shot a 74 on Tuesday to finish three rounds of action at 233, good for a tie for 61st place. Casey Russell of Louisiana-Monroe captured the individual crown with a 213 total.

 

Nebraska takes next week off before concluding its fall schedule on Nov. 1-2 at the 49er Collegiate Classic in Charlotte, N.C.
