Huskers in 10th Place After First Round of 49er Collegiate Classic

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men’s golf team posted a round of 296 on Monday morning and is tied for 10th place after one round of the 49er Collegiate Classic at Skybrook Golf Course in Huntersville, N.C.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The start of the 54-hole tournament was delayed Monday morning because of fog. The delay pushed back the start of the second round, which will not be completed until Tuesday morning. The third and final round will be played immediately following the completion of the second round.

 

Nebraska’s opening-round 296 left it 13 shots behind team leader and host Charlotte, which opened with a round of 283. Virginia Commonwealth (284), Arkansas State (287), Rhode Island (287) and Ohio (288) round out the top five.

 

The Huskers were led on Monday by junior Judd Cornell who posted a two-under par 70 and is tied for eighth place. Sophomore Tom Bethel is tied for 22nd after a 73 in the opening round. The Husker lineup was rounded out by Mark Pillen (75, tie 38th), Ryan Lenahan (78, tie 61st) and Drew Reynolds (80, tie 72nd).

 

Charlotte’s Matt Mincer leads the individual race following a six-under par 66 on Monday, good for a two-shot lead after one round.
