The Nebraska swimming and diving team open its home regular season with a marquee match-up on Saturday afternoon. The Truman State Bulldogs, defending Division I-AA national champions, will take on the Huskers at 1 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Pool. It is the Huskers' first regular- season home meet of the year.
The Huskers are 2-0 this year in dual action, after defeating both Southwest Missouri State and Southern Illinois on the road before hosting the Alumni Meet two weeks ago.
"The schedule was laid out nicely so we can evaluate our training leading into Truman State," Coach Pablo Morales said. "I like the gap we have had since the SIU meet. An illness ran through the team but we had time to deal with it and get back on our feet again."
The Huskers defeated Truman State last year 149-113, gaining their third win of the year. Nebraska has an opportunity on Saturday to hold a 3-0 dual record for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
Truman State is 1-0 in dual action this season, defeating Washington 150-113. Truman State also took the title in its home invite, the Bulldog Invitational on Nov. 5-6. The Bulldogs defeated Nebraska-Omaha, Indianapolis, Northern Iowa and Lewis in the five-team invite.
Coach Morales is preparing his team for another tough match-up, believing Truman State is another improved team on the schedule.
Sophomores Kate Wheeler and Lauren Bailey have led the Huskers so far this season. Wheeler is 4-0 in individual races while Bailey has tallied four victories of her own.
The Huskers will take a break from dual action following Saturday's contest, traveling to the Minnesota Invitational on Nov. 19 and the Texas Invitational on Dec. 2.
