The third-ranked Nebraska wrestling team competed at the Brand-Kaufman Saturday in Omaha, Neb. No team scores were kept, but the Huskers were led by freshman Paul Donahoe, who won the 20-and-under division at 125 pounds.
In the open division, B.J. Wright finished second at 157 pounds, while Jon May and B.J. Padden both finished fourth in their weight classes (heavweight and 197 pounds, respectively). NU Coach Mark Manning was pleased with the Huskers' efforts Saturday.
"We wrestled pretty well," Manning said. "We got a lot of matches today, and we keep getting better."
Along with Donahoe, Chris Oliver advanced deep in the 149-pound bracket for the Huskers in the 20-and-under division. The progress shown by the freshmen was a positive for Manning.
"It was good to see our freshmen do well in the 20-and-under division," Manning said. "It gives them a lot to build from."
No. 3 Nebraska will next be in action on Saturday, Nov. 20, when they take on No. 10 West Virginia at the NU Coliseum at 7 p.m.
