Husker Volleyball Autograph Session Set for Saturday

Lincoln ? The Nebraska volleyball team will be having a free autograph session on Saturday, Jan. 15, following the men’s basketball game against Texas. The autograph session will take place following the 12:45 p.m. game at the Huskers Authentic Team Store, located in the Southeast Corner of the upper concourse.

Autograph sheets will be available for all fans, who can also bring personal items to be autographed. In addition, Huskers Authentic will also have a limited edition poster for purchase that commemorates the Huskers’ undefeated Big 12 title in 2004. Nebraska went 30-2 in 2004 and reached the NCAA Regional finals before losing to USC before finishing fifth in the final national poll. The Husker volleyball team will be recognized during halftime of Saturday’s game.

The Huskers had three AVCA All-Americans, middle blocker Melissa Elmer and opposite hitter Sarah Pavan, who were both first-team selections, and outside hitter Jennifer Saleaumua, a second-team honoree. Pavan was also chosen as the AVCA National Freshman of the Year.

Husker Volleyball to be Honored in Seward on Jan. 24
Lincoln ?The Jones National Bank and Trust Company in Seward along with the Match Club -- The Official Booster Club for Nebraska Volleyball -- are co-hosting a free community event saluting the Husker volleyball program on Monday, Jan. 24.

The event is being held at the Seward County Ag Pavilion, located at 500 North 14th Street in Seward.  Doors will open at 6 p.m. and a program featuring former Husker Volleyball coach Terry Pettit along with current NU Volleyball coach John Cook will begin at 7 p.m.

Pettit, who was honored by USA Volleyball with its All-Time Great Coach Award in 2004, was a three-time national coach of the year as head coach of the Husker program from 1977 to 1999. Pettit, who guided NU to six NCAA Final Fours and the 1995 NCAA title, compiled a 694-149-1 record in 23 seasons at Nebraska, leading the Huskers to 21 conference titles.

Cook concluded his fifth season in 2004, guiding the Husker program to a 30-2 record and an appearance in the NCAA Regional final before a five-game loss to USC. This fall, the Huskers won the Big 12 title with a 20-0 record and finished fifth in the final USA Today/CSTV Coaches poll. The 2000 AVCA National Coach of the Year, Cook is 151-11 in his five seasons at Nebraska.
