The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but Monday’s second round was cancelled because of rain in the Houston area. Nebraska stood in second place after a 295 in round one, just a single shot behind first-round leader SamHoustonState. However, North Texas, Memphis and UT-Arlington all moved past the Huskers on Tuesday with sub-290 rounds. North Texas’ 285 left them with a 584 total, one shot better than Memphis, while SamHoustonState (587) and UT-Arlington (589) also finished ahead of Nebraska.

Nebraska’s top individual finisher was sophomore Brady Schnell, who competed in the tournament as an individual. Schnell is just four months removed from surgery to repair damage to his left knee, but posted the day’s second best score with a three-under par 69 on the par-72, 6,954-yard Highlands Course layout. His Tuesday round left him with a two-round total of even-par 144, good for a tie for fourth place, the best finish of his Nebraska career.

Among Nebraska’s team competitors, sophomore Ryan Lenahan posted a 74 in the second round and finished the tournament at 145, good for a tie for 10th place. Freshman Chris Bruening carded a 73 on Tuesday and finished in a tie for 19th place with a 148 total. The Husker lineup was rounded out by Kent Schreiner (77 on Tuesday, 150 total, tie 27th), Drew Reynolds (76, 152, tie 43rd) and Judd Cornell (76, 157, tie 71st).

North Texas’ Anthony Broussard captured the individual crown with a 141 total, two shots better than Ryan Cromwell of TexasState and Jordan Krantz from Texas-Arlington. Schnell was one of six players in a tie for fourth place.

Nebraska’s fifth-place finish was its fourth top-five finish of the 2004-05 campaign. Nebraska resumes its spring season on Feb. 28-March 1 at the UTSA Intercollegiate in San Antonio.
