Nebraska sophomore Drew Reynolds posted his second consecutive round of one-under-par 70 on Tuesday at the Roadrunner Intercollegiate in San Antonio, and finishing in a tie for fifth-place with a three-round total of even-par 213. Reynolds opened the tournament with a 73 on Monday morning, before posting a 70 in the afternoon round on the 6,691-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club layout.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Reynolds’ 213 total left him tied with <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Missouri’s Chris Mabry for fifth, three strokes behind tournament winner Jeremy Alcorn of Baylor. WichitaState’s Judd Easterling and Tyler Docking of Kansas tied for second at 211, followed by WichitaState’s Ty Cline, who was fourth at 212. The tie for fifth place marks the second-best finish of Reynolds’ career, trailing only a third-place finish at Nebraska’s Fairway Club Invitational last fall.
Husker sophomore Brady Schnell finished tied for 61st with a 230 total after a round of 79 on Tuesday, while Ryan Lenahan was 73rd with a 234 total, including a 76 on Tuesday.
Nebraska also had scores of 74 from Judd Cornell and 81 from Chris Bruening on Tuesday. Bruening and Cornell, however, were disqualified following the second round, preventing Nebraska from posting a second-round team score and disqualifying the Huskers from the team competition.
The Huskers posted a 306 in round one, and would have posted a 291 in round two if not for the disqualifications. Nebraska posted a 299 team score in round three, and would have finished in a tie for 11th place with an 896 total.
The disqualification of Cornell and Bruening stemmed from a scorecard clerical error, according to Nebraska Coach Bill Spangler. Subsequently, the tournament committee made a controversial decision to disqualify both Husker players.
Kansas captured the team title with an 860 total, followed by WichitaState at 862 and Baylor in third place at 865.
Nebraska is next in action at the Pioneer Classic in Phoenix, Ariz., on March 15-16.
