Huskers Begin Spring Break Trip in Arizona

The Nebraska men's golf team begins a two-tournament Spring Break trip this week at the Pioneer Classic in Goodyear, Ariz. The 54-hole tournament is co-hosted by the University of Denver and Iowa State at Palm Valley Golf Club.

Action in the Pioneer Classic begins on Tuesday, March 15 with 36 holes, while the final 18 holes are set for Wednesday morning at the par-72, 7,015-yard layout. Both days play will begin with a 9 a.m. (CST) shotgun start.

Nebraska will face a formidable field at the tournament, headlined by fourth-ranked New Mexico. The Lobos feature the nation's second-ranked individual golfer Spencer Levin. Other top-75 teams in the field include No. 35 Indiana, 55th-ranked Wichita State, No. 68 Denver and No. 75 Colorado State.

Nebraska Coach Bill Spangler will take a slightly different lineup to Arizona this week. Sophomores Drew Reynolds and Brady Schnell, along with junior Judd Cornell have become mainstays at the top of the Husker lineup. However, this week's five-man roster will also include freshman Tyler Bishop and junior Kent Schreiner, who earned their way into the lineup through qualifying in the past week.

According to Spangler, the Huskers' spring break tournaments are crucial in building momentum heading into the second half of the spring schedule. The Huskers will face several district foes in the next two weeks and must fare well to position themselves for the possibility of trip to NCAA Regionals.

Reynolds Finishes Fifth at UTSA Intercollegiate

Nebraska sophomore Drew Reynolds paced Nebraska at the UTSA Intercollegiate on Feb. 28 and March 1. Reynolds completed three rounds of play with a 213 total, including two rounds of 70 to finish in a tie for fifth place. The pair of 70s in the final two rounds were season-best scores for the sophomore.

Nebraska did not finish in the team race because of a pair of disqualifications in the second round. Both Judd Cornell and Chris Bruening were disqualified because of scoring errors, leaving Nebraska with only three scores to count and disqualifying the Huskers from the team race. Nebraska had opened with a 306 in round one, before the second-round disqualification.
