The Huskers are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Pioneer Golf Classic last week in Goodyear, Ariz. In that tournament, Nebraska posted a season-low three-round total, a season-low single-round total and sophomore Brady Schnell tied the school single-round record of 65 in the second round.

Schnell was again at the top of his game on Monday on the par-72, 7,206-yard Stevinson Ranch Golf Club layout. He opened the day with a two-under par 70 in the morning and posted his second sub-par round of the day in the afternoon with a 71. His 141 total left him in a tie for fifth place with Missouri’s Chris Mabry, nine shots off the lead of Kevin Ward of Kansas. Schnell has now posted four consecutive sub-par rounds dating back to last week’s tournament.

Sophomore Drew Reynolds and junior Judd Cornell are tied for 14th place with four other golfers with a 147 total after two rounds. Reynolds opened with a 74 and posted a 73 in the afternoon round, while Cornell opened with a 70, but fell back with a 77 in the afternoon.

The Husker lineup was rounded out by freshman Tyler Bishop who is tied for 58th with a 156 total (81-75) and junior Kent Schreiner who had a 158 total (74-84) and is tied for 69th place.

Kansas surged to the 36-hole team lead by posting the day’s best two rounds, a 286 in the morning and a 287 in the second round. The Huskers’ 584 team total leaves them one shot ahead of Colorado and Denver who are tied for fourth at 585. Wichita State, the team champion at last week’s Pioneer Golf Classic, is in sixth place at 589.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning at 10 a.m. CST.
