The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men’s golf team fired a round of 303 on Tuesday at the rain-shortened ASU Indian Golf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark., good for a 14th-place finish in the field.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Illinois State captured the tournament crown with a 275 total, good for a 14 shot victory over host ArkansasState. Louisiana-Monroe (290) and Rice (291) followed, with South Florida, Oral Roberts and Southern Illinois finishing in a three-way tie for fifth place at 293.
Individually, Nebraska was led by junior Judd Cornell who finished in a tie for 11th place with a one-under par 71 at the Ridge Pointe Country Club. Brady Schnell carded a 74 for a tie for 32nd, with Drew Reynolds (78, tie 62nd), Tyler Bishop (80, tie 73rd) and Ryan Lenahan (81, tie 76th) rounding out the Nebraska lineup.
Illinois State’s Kyle Vasel captured the individual crown with a 65, four shots better than three golfers at 69, with another six golfers tied for fifth at 70.
Monday’s action at the ASU Indian Golf Classic was rained out, reducing the event from a 54-hole event to 18 holes. Nebraska is next in action on April 29 to May 1 at the Big 12 Championships in Trinity, Texas.
