The Nebraska men’s golf team posted a 312 in the second round of the Big 12 Men’s Golf Championships on Saturday at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas. The Huskers’ second-round score left them with a two-day total of 615, good for ninth place entering Sunday’s final round. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska’s 615 total leaves the Huskers a single shot behind eighth-place KansasState and four shots out of seventh place held by Baylor. The Huskers are a shot in front of three-time defending Big 12 champion Texas, who completed two rounds with a 616 team total. OklahomaState leads the team race with a two-round total of 581, including a 296 on Saturday, the best round of the day on the par-72, 7,330-yard Whispering Pines layout. The Cowboys are seven shots in front of Oklahoma, with Missouri another four shots back at 592.
Individually, Nebraska is being paced by sophomore Brady Schnell who has completed two rounds with a 151 total, including a 78 in Saturday’s second round. Schnell, who opened the tournament with a 73 is tied for 15th place. Sophomore Drew Reynolds posted the Huskers’ best round of the day on Saturday with a 76. His 153 total after 36 holes leaves him in a tie for 22nd place.
Junior Judd Cornell posted a 79 on Saturday and is tied for 34th at 155, while freshman Mark Pillen is tied for 40th at 156 after a 79 on Saturday. Junior Kent Schreiner rounds out the Nebraska lineup in a tie for 42nd place at 157, following an 80 in the second round.
A pair of Oklahoma golfers, Justin Fraley and Anthony Kim, are tied for the individual lead at four-under-par 140, one shot in front of KansasState’s Matt VanCleave.
The 54-hole tournament concludes with the final round on Sunday. Nebraska golfers will tee of on the 10th hole beginning at 8 a.m.
