The Nebraska men's golf team returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at the ASU Indian Golf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The Huskers will be intent on building on the momentum of their tournament victory earlier this week at the Branson Creek Invitational in Hollister, Mo.
Nebraska is one of 15 teams in the Indian Golf Classic, which will begin with 36 holes on Monday at Ridge Pointe Country Club, before concluding with the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning.
Host Arkansas State will be among the teams to beat, along with two teams ranked in the top 100 of the most recent GolfStat statistical rankings? No. 90 Louisiana-Monroe and 93rd-ranked Southern Miss. Nebraska is inching up the rankings on the strength of a strong spring performance, most recently earlier this week.
At the Branson Creek Invitational, Nebraska had a solid team effort as four of Nebraska's golfers posted rounds of 73 or lower in the tournament, including three golfers with rounds in the 60s. Both Drew Reynolds (68) and Ryan Lenahan (69) fired career-low rounds in the tournament, while Brady Schnell continued his hot golf with a second-place finish. Schnell has finished sixth or better in four of Nebraska's five spring tournaments and his scoring averages in the past three tournaments is 71.33 strokes per round, lowering his 2004-05 stroke average to 73.7.
Reynolds, Lenahan and Schnell will be joined in the lineup next week by junior Judd Cornell and freshman Tyler Bishop who also finished in the top 20 at Branson earlier this week. The tournament title marked Nebraska's second victory of the 2004-05 season and was the fourth top-five finish in five spring starts for the Huskers.
Nebraska's strong recent performance has improved its chances of qualifying for an NCAA Regional later this month. The Huskers are currently ninth in the district standings, with the top seven teams moving on to regional play. Big 12 rivals Missouri and Colorado occupy the seventh and eighth spots, respectively, and the Huskers will see both teams at the Big 12 Championships at the end of April.
Huskers Victorious at Branson Creek Invitational

The Huskers began the 2004-05 season with a win at the Fairway Club Invitational and the tournament title was Nebraska's fourth top-five showing in the spring. Brady Schnell led the Huskers by finishing in second place with a 216 total, including a second-round 68. Fellow sophomores Drew Reynolds and Ryan Lenahan tied for fifth place at 219.
