Lincoln ? A limited number of single-match Nebraska volleyball tickets for the upcoming season went on sale to the public today (Tuesday, Aug. 2) at 8 a.m.
Ticket prices are $12 (floor and lower balcony), $10 (upper balcony), $6 (adult general admission) and $4 (youth general admission). Each fan making a request will be limited to two tickets per game, except for the Sept. 10 contest against Pacific. Tickets can be purchased at the Athletic Ticket Office, located across the street from Memorial Stadium, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, by calling 1-800-8-BIGRED, or by logging onto Huskers.com.
The 14-match home schedule includes match-ups with eight NCAA qualifiers, including Sweet 16 participants Penn State (Sept. 11) and Texas (Oct. 15). Other NCAA participants on the 2005 docket include Pacific (Sept. 10 at the Devaney Center), Texas A&M (Sept. 21), Kansas (Oct. 26), Missouri (Nov. 13), Kansas State (Nov. 19) and Colorado (No. 23).
All of the matches will take place at the NU Coliseum, except for the Sept. 10 match against Pacific, which will start at 2 p.m. at the Devaney Center, prior to the football team’s 6 p.m. game against Wake Forest.
In addition, all-session tickets for the AVCA/NACWAA College Volleyball Showcase set for Aug. 26-27 in Omaha are available for purchase through Ticketmaster. Those tickets ($36 and $30) can only be purchased at Ticketmaster locations (Baker’s, Younkers and the Nebraska Student Union in Lincoln), over the phone at (402) 422-1212 or at www.ticketmaster.com. The field for that tournament includes defending national champion Stanford and national powers Penn State and Hawaii.
Nebraska, which finished the 2004 season ranked fifth nationally with a 30-2 record, returns six starters, including two-time All-American middle blocker Melissa Elmer, right side hitter Sarah Pavan and outside hitter Jennifer Saleaumua. Other returning starters include juniors Dani Busboom and Christina Houghtelling and sophomore Tracy Stalls, while junior Dani Mancuso and sophomore Meghan Smith round out the eight returnees back from last season’s Big 12 title team.
In addition, the Huskers have one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, including freshmen Jordan Larson, Amanda Gates, Rachel Holloway and Michigan State transfer Maggie Griffin.
The Huskers, who open fall drills on Tuesday, Aug. 9, will play host to the Red/White Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Red/White Scrimmage are $6 for adults and $4 for children in high school and younger.
