Toledo, Ohio- The Nebraska men’s golf team fell to 11th place through 36 holes of play after tying for seventh through 18 holes to finish the first day of competition as the University of Toledo?s Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational at the par-71, 7,255-yard Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
The Huskers posted a team score of 300 through the first 18 holes to leave them tied with Coastal Carolina and <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>MichiganState. The team’s final total for the day at 603 leaves them just four strokes out of sixth place.
Southern California leads the tournament through the first 36 holes with a 581 team total.
Junior Brady Schnell sizzled on the first 18 holes with a team-leading 73, and followed with a 76 on his second round. Senior Judd Cornell struggled on his first 18 holes with a 77, but came back with a bang, shooting a 72 in the second round.
Schnell and Cornell’s score of 149 through the first 36 holes leaves them tied for 19th place along with Colin Biles of Ohio State, Jhonatton Vegas of Texas, and Drew Landing of TCU.
Junior Drew Reynolds posted a 152 (74-78) for the third spot on the team and a tie for 37th in the tournament. Junior Ryan Lenahan was close behind with a score of 153 (76-77) for 44th in the tournament, while Trent Price rounded out the Husker’s lineup with a 157 (78-79).
Joshua Wooding and Taylor Wood of USC hold down the top individual scores with a 141 (71-70) and a 142 (69-73), respectively. Justin Hull of Toledo rounded out the top three individual scores with a 143 (72-71).
Southern California has a commanding lead on the tournament with a team total of 581 strokes (289-292). Texas, Coastal Carolina, and Florida remain within three strokes of each other at 591 (305-286), 592 (300-292), and 593 (298, 295), respectively. Toledo rounds out the top five teams of the tournament at 595 (293, 302).
The Huskers follow today’s action with the final 18 holes of the Inverness Intercollegiate Invitational Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CDT.
Nebraska will see its third tournament of the fall when it faces off at the Memphis Intercollegiate Golf Classic in Memphis, Tenn., on Oct. 3-4.
