DALLAS-University of Nebraska outside hitter Jordan Larson was chosen as the Big 12 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for matches Oct. 10-16, the league office announced.
It is the first conference weekly accolade for Larson, and she is the only freshman to receive the award this season. She is also the third Husker picked for the league’s weekly honor this season, as Christina Houghtelling (Aug. 29) and Melissa Elmer (Oct. 10) were chosen previously.
Larson averaged 4.78 points, 3.89 kills and 3.11 digs in three Husker sweeps last week, as the No. 1 ranked Huskers improved to 18-0 overall and 9-0 in the league. On the week, Larson tallied a .397 attack percentage in 73 swings, hitting over .420 in both Big 12 contests. She leads all conference freshmen in both kills (3.42) and hitting percentage (.327).
Against Texas Tech, Larson produced her fourth double-double of the year with a match-high 13 kills on .440 hitting while adding 14 digs and a career-high four service aces. She followed up with a match-high 13 kills on .423 hitting, eight digs, and a career-high four assists in a sweep of No. 18 Texas that gave NU a two-match lead in the Big 12 race. It marked the eighth time that the Hooper, Neb., native has paced the Huskers in kills this season.
Larson and the No. 1 Huskers head to Manhattan, Kan., to take on No. 23 Kansas State on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. The match will be carried on selected Pinnacle Sports Network stations, including B107.3 FM in Lincoln and Omaha, and video-streamed live on HuskersNside. Monday’s ranking is the 48th week that NU has been ranked No. 1 in volleyball, tying Hawaii for second place all-time.
