<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Choudrant, La.-The Nebraska men’s golf team fell to an 11th-place finish after sitting in eighth place through 36 holes at the par-72, 7,105-yard course at the Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La. Nebraska posted a final round team score of 301 on Tuesday.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
The Huskers final score of 889 (301-287-301) left them just one stroke out of a spot in the top 10 and 11 strokes out of a spot in the top five in a field of 20 teams.
Junior Drew Reynolds led the Huskers with a 217 (75-70-72), placing him in a tie for 14th, his second top-20 finish of the fall. Reynolds’ final score of 217 was also just one stroke away from matching his season low of 216, while his second-round 70 was just one stroke shy of matching his season low round of 69, both of which he shot at the Xavier Invitational.
In addition, Reynolds was just two strokes out of a top-10 finish, and his two eagles, which he snagged on the first day of competition, finished as a tie for the most in the tournament.
Junior Brady Schnell filled the second spot for the Huskers with a 221 (74-73-74) while grabbing a tie for 34th. Junior Ryan Lenahan followed close behind with a 222 (74-73-75) and a tie for 37th.
Senior Judd Cornell filled the fourth spot for the Huskers with a 229 (78-71-80), while freshman Joe Kubick rounded out the Husker lineup with a 232 (78-73-81) and a tie for 76th. Kubick finished in sixth place as an individual for most pars with 37.
As a team, Nebraska finished third in eagles with two, as well as fourth in par-5 scoring with an average of 4.77, or 14-under par, and eighth in par-4 scoring with an average of 4.19. The Huskers were also sixth in par-scoring, finishing with 163 pars out of a possible 270. Finally, the team finished in 10th place in birdies with a total of 39.
After three individuals finished with a score of 211, it took a four-hole playoff round to decide the individual title. The University of Texas Arlington’s Zack Reeves (67-74-70) came out on top, while Ole Miss’ Chris Rogers (71-72-68) and Louisiana-Monroe’s Tim Kunick (66-70-75) claimed a tie for spots two and three.
The University of Mississippi won the tournament with an 855 (281-284-290), while the University of Texas-Arlington was close behind with an 859 (283-287-289). Mississippi St. snagged the third spot with an 865 (286-288-291), while Louisiana-Lafayette (294-287-297) and RiceUniversity (291-298-289) tied with an 878 to round out the top five.
The Huskers follow Monday’s action with their final tournament of the fall as they head to Hattiesburg, Miss. for the Southern Miss/Sam Hall Intercollegiate on Oct. 31- Nov. 1, beginning at 8:30 a.m. EST.
