Huskers in 8th Place at Louisiana Tech invitational

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Choudrant, La.-The Nebraska men’s golf team stands in 8th place through 36 holes of play after the first day of competition at the Louisiana Tech Invitational at the par-72, 7,105-yard course at the Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, La.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Huskers final total for the day of 588 (301-287) leaves them just seven strokes out of a spot in the top five in a field of 20 teams.

 

Junior Drew Reynolds leads the Huskers with a 145 through the first two rounds. Reynolds began with a 75 on the first 18 holes and followed with a 70, the team-low for the first day of competition. His total leaves him tied for 20th.

 

Juniors Ryan Lenahan and Brady Schnell secured spots two and three for the Huskers, each finishing the first day with 147. Lenahan and Schnell both shot a 74 on the first 18 holes and followed with a 73, leaving them tied for 39th with 10 others.

 

Senior Judd Cornell shot a 78 on the first 18 holes and sizzled on the back 18 with a 71, finishing with 149 strokes. Cornell stands at fourth on the team and one of seven tied for 52nd in the tournament.

 

Freshman Joe Kubick rounded out the team in only his second appearance in a tournament for the Huskers, finishing with a 151 and a tie for 64th. Kubick shot a 78 on the first 18 holes and followed up with a 73. His score of 73 marks a season and career-low with a one-stroke improvement on his previous low of 74, shot at the Fairway Club Invitational.

 

Louisiana-Monroe claims the top player in Tim Kunick with a 136 (66-70), while Larry Blatt, Jr. of Ole miss is in second with a 137 (68-69). There is a four-way spot for third place with 141 strokes between N. Texas’ Anthony Broussard (73-68), Mississippi St.’s Noah Goldman (70-71), and the University of Texas Arlington’s Zack Reeves (67-74) and Ryan Zamorano (71-70).

 

The University of Mississippi leads the tournament with a 565 (281-284), while the University of Texas-Arlington remains close behind with 570 (283-287). Mississippi St. snagged the third spot with a 574 (286-288), while Louisiana-Lafayette (294-287) and Louisiana-Monroe (291-290) tied with a 581 to round out the top five.

 

The Huskers follow Monday’s action with the final 18 holes of the Louisiana Tech Invitational Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. EST.
