Huskers in 12th Place at Memphis Intercollegiate

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Memphis, Tenn.-The Nebraska men’s golf team sits in 12th place through 36 holes of play after tying for ninth through 18 holes to finish the first day of competition at the Memphis Intercollegiate Golf Classic at the par-72, 7,249-yard course at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis, Tenn.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Huskers posted a team score of 300 through the first 18 holes to leave them tied with the University of South Florida. The team’s final total for the day at 601 leaves them just five strokes out of a spot in the top five.

 

Juniors Ryan Lenahan and Drew Reynolds led the Huskers after each shot a 148 through the first two rounds. Lenahan sizzled on the first 18 holes with a 73 and wrapped up his day with a 75. Reynolds began with a 77 on the first 18 and shot a 71, the team-low for the first day of competition, to wrap up the first day of the tournament.

 

Their mark of 148 strokes leaves them in a group of 10 who are tied for 17th in the tournament.

 

Senior Judd Cornell snagged a 73 on the first 18 holes but dropped to a 78 on the back 18 to end with 151 strokes. Cornell stands at third on the team and one of five tied for 36th in the tournament.

 

Junior Brady Schnell shot two rounds of 77 for a total of 154, leaving fourth on the team and tied for 50th in the tournament along with five others.

 

Junior Mark Pillen rounds out the Husker lineup with scores of 80 and 78 in the first and second rounds for a total of 158 strokes. Pillen is tied for 69th with four other individuals.

 

The University of Memphis posted two individuals in the top five to lead the tournament with a team total of 579 (291-288). Keven Fortin-Simard leads the tournament with an eight-under par 136 (69-67), while Ian Rochester shot an even-par 144 to tie for fifth.

 

Southern Miss’ Justin Elliot shot a 138 (67-71) for second place while MississippiState’s Greg Huxman is in third with a 142 (69-73). Rounding out the top five for the tournament is Marshall’s Shawn Warren with a 143 (73-70) and Tulane’s Kyle Ritchie, who is tied for fifth with a 144 (72-72).

 

Southern Mississippi (287-301) and KansasState (294-294) are tied for second with 588, followed by 4th place Tulane with 595 (302-293). PennState (294-302) and South Alabama

(306-290) are tied with 596 strokes each to round out the top five.

 

The Huskers follow Monday's action with the final 18 holes of the Memphis Intercollegiate Golf Classic Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. EST.
