The Nebraska swimming and diving team will head to its first team invitational together this weekend at the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn.
The three-day event will begin on Friday at noon with preliminary heats followed by finals at 6 p.m. Saturday will follow the same format with prelims beginning at 11 a.m., while Sunday’s prelims are at 10 a.m. with finals concluding the meet at 3 p.m.
The Minnesota Invitational offers some of the best competition in the nation, and comes between a stretch of seven straight dual meets in which the Huskers have tallied a perfect 5-0 record thus far.
The University of Wisconsin women will lead the 14-team field this weekend as the Badgers are ranked 11th in the nation in the latest CSCAA Top 25 poll. The other remaining ranked team to be competing this weekend is Big 12 foe Kansas, who comes in at No. 24. Minnesota and Notre Dame are receiving votes, and Big 12 opponent Iowa State is in the field as well.
St. Olaf, North Dakota, Carleton, Gustavus, St. Cloud, South Dakota State, Washington State and Carthage College round out the competition.
The Huskers finished third at last year’s Minnesota Invitational with 714 points led by Bailey Ingles’ 200-yard butterfly victory on the final day of competition. NU trailed only Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Following this weekend, the Husker divers will travel to the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas, Dec. 1-3, while the swimmers will not see action again until Holiday Training in Nassau, Bahamas on Jan. 7.
Huskers Rank Among the Best in the Big 12
The Nebraska swimming and diving team has made its present felt throughout the conference thus far this season as it has 40 performances ranked among the top 10 in the latest Direct Athletics Big 12 Swimming and Diving performance list.
Senior Lauren Bailey is first in the 1,000- (9:59.98) and 1,650-yard freestyle (16:42.03) events and senior Amie Buoy is first on the three meter dive (dual) with a score of 337.50.
Review: Husker Divers Compete at USC
Senior Amie Buoy tallied the highest finish of the weekend for the Husker divers at the Trojan Diving Invite in Los Angeles, Calif., with a third-place finish on the three-meter board (260.05).
Buoy also placed sixth on the one meter (216.15), just ahead of senior Becky Johnson in seventh (221.00), who led the Huskers on day two with her sixth-place finish on the platform dive with a score of 198.60.

The Nebraska swimming and diving team won eight of 13 events behind two wins each from junior Lauren Bailey and senior Amie Buoy as it defeated both Missouri State and South Dakota State at the Devaney Center Pool Saturday afternoon.
Buoy’s wins on the one- (251.17) and three-meter (287.70) were her seventh and eighth straight victories of the year as the Huskers moved to 5-0 in dual competitions by outscoring the Bears 74-26 and the Jackrabbits 87-23.
"Our goal was to step up and start doing the little things we need to do to have a great meet," Head Coach Pablo Morales said. "What I wanted to see heading into the Minnesota Invitational was girls
stepping up and having good starts and turns and winning close races."
Bailey swam both her victories in season-best times with a 9:59.98 in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:59.98) and a 4:57.36 in the 500-yard freestyle to pace the Huskers in the pool.
Nebraska also saw success from a pair of young Illinois natives as sophomore Lynn Siemert (24.49) edged out junior Kate Dulgar in the 50-yard freestyle and freshman Christina Yemm won the 100-yard butterfly in a career-best 58.67.
Junior co-captain Kate Wheeler and senior Esmie Holderman won the remaining individual victories for the Huskers, Wheeler in the 100-yard freestyle (52.66) and Holderman in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.94). Wheeler also swam a career-best time of 10:04.78 to place second behind Bailey in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
The 200-yard medley relay team (junior Bailey Ingles, senior Rachel Schlatter, senior Alex King and Siemert) also took first in a season-best 1:47.89.
