The Husker swimming and diving team will participate in its only double dual of the season following an off week as it hosts Missouri State and South Dakota State on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m. at the Devaney Center Pool.
Nebraska will also welcome the South Dakota State and Missouri State men who will compete head-to-head. The men's events will be followed by the women's events.
Nebraska is 3-0 on the young season in dual competition, improving its impressive run to 18-3 over the past three seasons. Following this weekend the Huskers will take a break from dual competition as they travel to three team invitationals before a dual meet at Kansas on Jan. 14.
Two of the Huskers’ three victories this year have come at home as they defeated Northern Iowa (160-95) and Nebraska-Omaha (195-98) on Oct. 21 and 22. Nebraska also downed Arkansas on the road, 184-115, to open the dual season on Oct. 15 after finishing fifth at the Big 12 Relays the day before.
With two opponents coming to the Devaney Center Pool this weekend, the Huskers have a chance to start 4-0 at home for the second time in the last three years. Nebraska is 8-1 at home since the start of the 2003-04 season.
"It feels great to stay at home with this weekend’s meet," Head Coach Pablo Morales said. "Missouri State has an excellent program that always puts it together at the end of the year. They had a wonderful conference meet last year, and I expect them and South Dakota State to be very competitive coming in here this weekend."
The Husker swimmers will take a week off after this weekend, but the divers will travel to Los Angeles, Calif., for the USC Invitational on Nov. 11-12. The entire Nebraska team returns to action at the Minnesota Invitational Nov. 18-20.
Scouting the Bears and Jackrabbits
Formerly Southwest Missouri State, the Bears are the defending Missouri Valley Conference champions, compiling an 8-7 dual record last year that included invitational wins at Delta State and Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Bears are 2-0 this year after starting the season with an impressive runner-up finish at the Missouri Invitational where they defeated in-state opponents Drury, Truman State, Saint Louis and Washington.
Missouri State will have a busy two days as it faces Kansas and Iowa in a double dual on Friday, Nov. 4 before traveling to Lincoln for Saturday’s meet.
The Huskers lead the all-time series versus the Bears, 2-0, after defeating MSU 77-35 last year in Springfield.
Nebraska holds a 1-0 all-time record versus South Dakota State.
The Jackrabbits opened their season with a tough test by taking on Big 12 opponent Iowa State, and fell to the Cyclones 197-72 despite setting two school records. On Friday night, they will take on North Carolina A&T in Moorhead, Minn., before heading to Lincoln.
The Jackrabbits are not affiliated with a conference, and finished last season 5-8 in dual action after starting the year 5-4.
Freshman Mallory Onisk leads the Jackrabbits into this weekend as she looks for another big meet after setting the school record in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.01) versus Iowa State.
